Today I want to talk about a somewhat unusual topic, an intriguing side effect, let’s say, for single guys who abstain from PMO (porn, masturbation, orgasm). It has to do with the ancient idea that retaining semen by not ejaculating can lead to various benefits, including increased energy, creativity, and attraction. The late Nikola Tesla, Steve Jobs, and Muhammad Ali practiced semen retention. In fact, it was standard operating procedure for many boxers in the 20th century not to ejaculate in the weeks leading up to a fight.
Napoleon Hill On Sexual Transmutation
Napoleon Hill was a 20th century best-selling self-help guru best known for authoring Think and Grow Rich. In the book there is a chapter entitled “The Mystery of Sex: Transmutation.” Sexual transmutation is the process of redirecting the energy present in powerful sexual urges into other productive activities. No one said it better than Napoleon Hill himself.
Sex desire is the most powerful of human desires. When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed, and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.
I’ve written about semen retention, sexual transmutation, and my own experience on another blog. Rather than regurgitate that material, here are some links I think you will find fascinating:
- Sexual Transmutation Explained (Mark Queppet)–Detailed discussion of sexual transmutation undertaken with sexual and/or asexual motives.
- The One Powerful Habit of Steve Jobs, Muhammad Ali and Nikola Tesla–Survey of what many celebrities have had to say on the topic of semen retention.
- A Scientific Explanation For the Powerful Benefits of Retention–Examination of the light science may shed on why semen retention works.

I like to think of the benefits as extra motivation to quit watching PMO’ing, but I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. . Do you believe sexual transmutation is a real thing? I’m also curious what any female readers might have to say given the focus of this post on the male experience.
