My brothers and I had a tough time growing up in a single-parent home. My mom did the best she could, but we went through many struggles. When someone is going through a hard time, gratitude is often the last thing on their mind. What I didn’t realize at the time was that gratitude was my mother’s lifeblood. Gratitude was her will to keep going in spite of everything she had been through in her life. Everything changes when we see the world not just in terms of our own needs and reality, but in terms of the needs and reality of others.
